Welcome!

We are making the "Great Loop" - up the east coast, through the Great Lakes and into Canada, and then down the Mississippi and around Florida. It promises to be the adventure of a lifetime! We invite you to join us through our blog.

We're in Charleston

We had a beautiful trip from our anchorage to Charleston... sunshine, breeze, birds, alligators and even a train that ran along near us for a bit. Unfortunately, by the time we got here the wind had picked up a good bit and was going in the opposite direction to the tide. We found an anchorage, dropped anchor and settled down to watch the Masters and skype with Sara and Olivia. As we inched closer to some of the sailboats around us, we began to wonder if all was well. With the boat rolling, Steve pulled up the anchor to find that it was fouled on a chain, fender and debris. He got us free and we went across the river to a marina. The wind and swells settled down within an hour or so (of course) but we did have a chance to walk the dog and do some laundry.

Ryder, the dog, is a 14 year old shih tzu. The older she gets, the more she acts like a cat - you know, like we are her staff and it's all about her. She doesn't care to participate in this walking thing. You can walk her in grass for 20 minutes with no result, and she will go on the dock on the way back to the boat. We have an astroturf  "potty" for her to use when we are anchored out. She went on the deck next to it once. Not sure if that is progress or not.

We will be here for a couple of days. My SD card from the camera seems to be messing with my computer, so no photos for now. I'm planning to get a new one while we are here, so I can post some more. Thanks to Sara for fixing my Google Earth map. Until next time...
