Sunday morning in Campbellford, ON

Happy Sunday everyone! We left Trenton yesterday morning and traveled to Campbellford - 32 miles and 12 locks away. It was a long day and my internet connection was not great when we arrived, so I'll get everybody caught up...

We walked around Trenton and saw some fun things, along with some architectural details I liked. We found the liquor store, where they had a whole refrigerated room for beer - pretty cool. I took photos of some of the brands that looked especially interesting. Steve was mortified. In the late afternoon, they had a concert at the band shell in the park. Sometimes they have particular bands, but this Friday night was open mic night. Some were pretty good, some not so much. Quite a few of the locals turned out and they danced to some of the music. Many of us boaters came up the dock, accompanied by our pets, and had cocktails while enjoying the concert.

Saturday morning we had a chance to go to the farmer's market before we left. The first lock didn't open until 9:00 and the farmer's market started at 7:00. I can just see the faces on the people who know me well. I don't usually get up by 7:00 for anything... but on a boat, things are a little different. The sun comes pouring in and the noises around you get started, so I make up for it by taking a nice nap in the afternoon. Back to the farmer's market... there were not many there, but the ones that were had some wonderful produce and goods. We bought some local maple syrup, honey and vegetables, and some home-made baked goods and jams. Before Rebecca and I left, Steve rode up on the bicycle with Ryder in the basket and took one of our bags home for us.

The ride to Campbellford was gorgeous! The landscape is hilly and has a great deal of marsh grass. There were little communities along the way - some of them just summer places, but others looked permanent. All along the way there were people out enjoying the water in boats, kayaks and just fishing along the shore. One boat was pulling a large inflatable sled with three young girls on it. They had a ball riding back and forth behind us jumping our wake. There was also one boat that was jumping our wake pretty close to the boat and then circling in front. Not cool. That is asking for trouble. Thankfully they only did it twice, and with no incident.

Rebecca took some fairly good lock pictures. She got off at one lock to get photos of us going in. We also got shots of the Glen Miller lock. We pulled into Campbellford around 5:30 and walked around a little bit. The Canadians have a two dollar coin they call a "tunie". The man who designed it is from Campbellford, and they have a large version of it to honor him.

Today we will be finding the chocolate shop, the cheese shop, the micro-brewery and going to the Stinking Rose Pub. Tomorrow we will head for Hastings. Check in with you later!

In latin, this means "harmony and safety" - it's good to have your own latin teacher along!

Chris would have loved it. This was one of several music stores.

So which is it?
