Welcome!

We are making the "Great Loop" - up the east coast, through the Great Lakes and into Canada, and then down the Mississippi and around Florida. It promises to be the adventure of a lifetime! We invite you to join us through our blog.

Cruising the Trent-Severn

We started our morning at the bakery in Campbellford, getting lots of yummy things to take along with us. We tried out one of their specialties - meat pies - for lunch. They were delicious! It was hot and humid by Canadian standards, and pretty much so by Savannah standards too. We traveled 25 miles and 5 locks today, with two of them being a set like we did before.

Today we rode through farmland, marshes and waterfront communities. The folks at the locks are always nice, as are the other boaters. There were lots of people out swimming and fishing today - they all waved. We found some nice yard decorations (and some not so nice that were left out). We are now at a marina in Hastings, Ontario. Hastings is a small town, but it does have restaurants, shops and the marina has good Wifi. A very good thing, because we got to Skype with Sara and Liv.

Tomorrow we will head on along the waterway to Peterborough. Hopefully it won't be quite as hot, but it will be a fairly long day. Only three locks, but 40 miles. Most of that is through a lake, so we should be able to make good time. Peterborough is a larger town, with transportation to Toronto for Rebecca. We will stay there a couple of nights.

More architectural details - from Campbellford

A wonderful bakery. The meat pies were fabulous!

We don't know what this is, but it's big!

Gemini docked in front of the Toonie (I spelled it wrong yesterday.)

A set of four turtles, accompanied by two cranes.

Waiting on the blue line.

Coming into the lock.

Rebecca is on board with Steve - I'm taking pictures.

A whirlpool outside the gate. You could see down about a foot, although it doesn't show up well in the photo.

The lockmasters are very nice and helpful.

Lots of lighthouses today

It's hard to see, but it is a scarecrow.

Another double lock.

An eagle totem

How can she sleep like that?

Easter Island guys on the dock.

They painted their boat shed door. Thought it was a shark at first.
