Welcome!

We are making the "Great Loop" - up the east coast, through the Great Lakes and into Canada, and then down the Mississippi and around Florida. It promises to be the adventure of a lifetime! We invite you to join us through our blog.

July 5 - On to Oswego

We left this morning for Oswego, NY, where we will set out across Lake Ontario. We had one more lock (going down) on the Erie before we turned down the Oswego River. There were many more houses than we thought along the Oswego, and many of them had lighthouses in the yard. We saw the ever present ducks and geese, and a few herons. There was one rather large convention of geese on the water that I am including here. It looked like there were a hundred or more.

Rebecca got up to speed quickly on the lock thing. All of them were going down today. We did six on the Oswego, and had to wait for a specific timed opening on one. When you have to wait, you tie up to the wall outside the gates. Steve took the opportunity to go up and chat with the lock guys.

We are spending the night along the canal tonight in Oswego, with one more lock to go before Lake Ontario. There are a few errands we would like to do before crossing, and there is supposed to be a bit of wind on the lake tomorrow, so we will stay another night and leave Thursday.

One of the things we are doing tomorrow is checking on our Verizon data plan for Canada. I checked before we left Savannah and it was going to be really expensive, but I am hoping they have some new plans now. Fingers crossed. If I can get something reasonable, the blog will be kept up semi-daily. If not, we will be relying on Wifi for the updates and they may be less frequent. The people who have done this say that Wifi is pretty easy to come by at least until we get to Georgian Bay. Will let you know tomorrow!

I am happy to report that Sara's first day at the Roswell office, and Olivia's first day at her new daycare went very well. Liv got to color today and Sara has her first refrigerator art!
This is a concrete sailboat! Steve insisted I take a picture.

This was on the hard at our marina.

This was on our side of the bridge at Brewerton.

The water is really clear here, with lots of seagrass.

Rebecca's first lock.

I'm being kind and only showing you one of the many yard lighthouses.

Riding in a bathtub again. We are higher up than the river.

We are tied up to the right ahead of these boats.
