Welcome!

We are making the "Great Loop" - up the east coast, through the Great Lakes and into Canada, and then down the Mississippi and around Florida. It promises to be the adventure of a lifetime! We invite you to join us through our blog.

Hastings to Peterborough

We walked to a nearby restaurant last night in Hastings - the food was good, the local beer was excellent! There were three choices: italian, fish & chips and canadian chinese. A fourth choice was closed on Mondays. We chose the italian. Walking across the bridge to the restaurant, we saw lots of people fishing along the spillway and canal. We keep seeing this, but have only seen a few (very small) fish caught. In fact, while we were at dinner we watched a woman pull in a tiny fish and hand it over to her boyfriend to unhook. The larger fish must be on to them, because we have seen a lot of them jumping... really big.

We left this morning, along with The Cooper, headed for Peterborough. The scenery is just beautiful. A good portion of the cruise today was through a lake dotted with little islands. We arrived around 3:00 with a fairly strong wind that made docking interesting. Rusty, Betty and Gigi are coming over later for cocktails before dinner. Since our internet connection is good, maybe we will get to Skype with Sara and Olivia later.

Rebecca has her bus ticket and we are 10 blocks away from the bus station. She will leave early Thursday morning for Toronto to fly home. We are really enjoying having her with us and will miss her. There's lots to do before she leaves, though. When we leave Peterborough, there is a lock that is like a moving bathtub - very different from the ones we have been doing. We were hoping she could go through it with us, but since she can't we are going to see it tomorrow. She has gotten pretty good at the lock thing, and has been collecting animal cards and stickers from the lockmasters.

More on Peterborough tomorrow...

Even the little girls fish around here!

A little beach along the way. They were blowing bubbles.
A beautiful farm. You can't see the crops very well in this shot.

But you can in this shot!
