Welcome!

We are making the "Great Loop" - up the east coast, through the Great Lakes and into Canada, and then down the Mississippi and around Florida. It promises to be the adventure of a lifetime! We invite you to join us through our blog.

Pentwater, MI

I was very happy to get to Pentwater! The ride down was pretty rough - I thought as bad as the day off New Jersey, Steve didn't agree. At least we are better now about preparing the cabin, so there wasn't as big a mess at the end of the cruise.

Pentwater is surrounded by marinas and sits on the side of a small lake. Around the marina were lots of shops and condos. This is apparently a great destination for families on vacation. There were lots of people using the parks and enjoying the water. As we have found with most of these harbors, there is a large sandy beach as you come into the breakwater. People were out sunning and swimming at the beaches and some were fishing from the breakwater.

There is a lovely children's book store in Pentwater, very close to the marina. They have a reading nook in the back and do a "story time" several times a day. Many of the shops were closed as we walked along the main street, but I love to window shop as well. The grocery store was one of the coolest I've seen on our trips. It was small, but had a little of everything, including a deli and great meats and produce.

There were some other looper boats at the marina next door and Godspeed was two boats over from us. We had seen the other boats before, but never really met the owners. They came over to invite us for cocktails, but I had already started making dinner. We will catch up with them later!

Our next stop is Muskegon, where we will pick Chris up at the airport for a visit and get together with cousins Rich, Bob and Carol.

Leaving Manistee

You really can't get the feel of the pitching from this photo, but we were rolling around quite a bit.

Coming into Pentwater's harbor

Safe and sound at the dock. We still rolled a little.

This was in the garden next to a boating antiques/ supply store.

Window shopping at the same store

I just liked this sign. My middle name is Elise, and you don't see it very often.

Heading out again
