Ocracoke to Belhaven

Thursday afternoon, we went to the museums and the British Cemetary. The local museum is in the house of a shipbuilder. There were displays about the speech and music of the locals - mostly descended from people who came from the British Isles and fairly isolated for many years.

During World War II, the British sent sub-hunter ships to help guard our coast. One of the ships was sunk by a U-boat off of Ocracoke only a few days after stopping there. Only four bodies were recovered, and they are buried in a small cemetary. The local Coast Guard station maintains the burial place.

The weather cooperated and we left Ocracoke on Friday for Belhaven. The trip was across Pamlico Sound again - a little rough but not like the trip over. The entrance into Belhaven was a little tricky. We were met by some more midges - not in the numbers we saw at New Bern, but enough. There was a little afternoon rain, that rewarded us with a rainbow. Not sure if it will show up well in the photos. This morning, there was a thin fog across the water that was beautiful.

An exciting day today, because the Piechota family is coming to stay for a couple of days! I can't wait to get my hands on that baby!

I saw another sunrise! Very unusual for me.
