Welcome!

We are making the "Great Loop" - up the east coast, through the Great Lakes and into Canada, and then down the Mississippi and around Florida. It promises to be the adventure of a lifetime! We invite you to join us through our blog.

Kingston, NY

We met some new friends Thursday night. Our friends Jerry and Jenny from Sweetgrass came over for drinks and brought a couple from Canada that they have met a few times along the way. Donald and Lisette from INO are not "looping", but are on their way back to Quebec City from touring the east coast. They are lovely people and we had a wonderful time. After drinks, we went with Diane and Joe for mexican food downtown.

Diane and I are loving the "critters" around here.  There are lots of mallard ducks and one white duck, some of the ducks are young but not babies. We have fed them bread scraps. There is a resident squirrel, fairly large, that climbs into the trash basket near the docks and plucks out newspaper. He gets it on the ground and then drags it away, presumably to his nest. We have also seen a cat being walked on a leash... Love those animals!

Today was an errand day - laundry and grocery shopping (again) - but at least I had Diane and Joe with me! We borrowed a car from the marina owner's daughter, a very sweet girl home from college in Florida. Joe knew where the grocery store and laundromat were because he wakes at dawn and walks 5 or 6 miles. The clothes are clean and folded, the freezer is restocked and I found a yarn store while we were doing all this - life is good.

The marina has a grill at the dock gate that boaters can use. Joe took the opportunity to grill some amazing marinated steak. It seems like we eat a lot doesn't it?  So does Ryder. She found a chance when everyone was busy and jumped up on the table to grab some salad. That's getting to be a habit with her! While Joe was cooking, I was able to Skype with all my children and Olivia. Life is really good!

Today we are going to Catskill, NY, the area where Washington Irving wrote The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.
Coming into Kingston marina

The ducks are everywhere!

Some young ducks - they are a little more wary

There is a nice bike path along the water

These folks were getting lessons in rowing

Apparently crew is a big pastime in Kingston

We found Elvis! and Marilyn.

Diane is Ryder's new best friend. She is rotten now! Life will be different for her after they go home!

This is our busy squirrel.  The marina staff tells us that this guy digs the paper out of the trash every day!

Laundry day.

A cat on a leash... not something you see every day.

Ryder helped herself to the salad

Caught red-handed
