Welcome!

We are making the "Great Loop" - up the east coast, through the Great Lakes and into Canada, and then down the Mississippi and around Florida. It promises to be the adventure of a lifetime! We invite you to join us through our blog.

Marco Island, FL

We cruised to Marco Island when we left Naples. All along the route we saw beautiful mangroves and LOTS of osprey nests. We also saw quite a few fishing boats. One of the boats flagged us down, and we said hello to Rusty who was out fishing with friends. By car Naples and Marco Island are fairly close together. Rusty and Betty live about halfway between the two, so we saw them a few more times. They had dinner on board with us last night and we look forward to seeing them in Savannah in late spring or early summer.

The people at Rose Marina are very friendly and helpful. We have enjoyed staying here. Almost everything we need is walking or biking distance. (I'm LOVING my new bike!) The sunsets and sunrises are gorgeous! And did I mention the tiki bar at the condos next door?

There is a large express catamaran that shuttles between the Keys, Marco Island and Ft. Myers. It doesn't go every day, but it's pretty cool to watch. The fishing charters and sightseeing boats go out of this marina daily. Marco Island is in prime tourist season, as is most of Florida.

We will leave today for an anchorage on the other side of Marco Island. Early tomorrow morning (Thursday) we will start out for Marathon. The winds have been high between here and there, so we will see how far we get. We're hoping to go all the way, but there is an anchorage along the way where we can duck in if we need to.  Our next post will be from Marathon!

A beautiful cruise to Marco Island

Lots of mangroves, but still no manatee sightings

An osprey nest in a tree! Most of them are on channel markers.
