Welcome!

We are making the "Great Loop" - up the east coast, through the Great Lakes and into Canada, and then down the Mississippi and around Florida. It promises to be the adventure of a lifetime! We invite you to join us through our blog.

Jupiter, FL

We left the marina bound for Jupiter, FL. Steve did a great job of getting us out of that tight slip with no drama. Along the way, we saw more big boats and houses and more yard art.

Several years ago Judd Brinson, a former pilot in Steve's unit, was killed in a plane crash in Savannah. Steve and many of Judd's friends from the unit have stayed in touch with his wife, Julie, and their daughter, Carli. Julie is married again - to Craig, a wonderful man who loves them both very much. Craig says he has been subjected to many "approvals" along the way. He has passed them all with flying colors! They met us at the boat and took us to an amazing place for dinner. Guanabanas is a restaurant on the water, made of a series of tiki huts. There are winding paths through the tables and adirondack chairs along the water. Even better, the food was fabulous! We enjoyed getting to visit with Julie, Carli and Craig.

The next day, Julie picked us up and dropped us at Roger Wood Stadium for a pre-season baseball game between the Atlanta Braves and the Miami Marlins. There was a pretty big crowd there and they were having fun. They had the typical mid-inning contests and such. The game went 10 innings and was tied at two, so they left it at a tie.

We walked back to the boat from the stadium. Along the way, there was one stretch where the land was undeveloped but behind a chain-link fence. We kept noticing these fairly large "creature holes" along the fence and wondered what made them. Armadillo was our best guess, but we were wrong. Near the end of the fence we found a large turtle. It was pretty cool, but we didn't get too close. We weren't sure how fast he could move!

Leaving Del Ray Beach

It's so weird to see the road run right down to the river

There are fewer high-rises now

and more bridges.

We could almost be a dinghy for some of these!

This was a marina and boat yard - for mega yachts, obviously.

You can even have them shrink-wrapped!

A "small" cruise ship

With this color scheme, it looks like a Navy ship - but it's a yacht!

Home-made house boats

This guy slowed down for us right after I took this - we thanked him because most don't.

The entrance to Guanabana

The marina "mascot"

Love this! A row of kids watching baseball.

You've got to have the manager come out and argue!

Don't know if this is a turtle or a tortoise, but it's big!
