Welcome!

We are making the "Great Loop" - up the east coast, through the Great Lakes and into Canada, and then down the Mississippi and around Florida. It promises to be the adventure of a lifetime! We invite you to join us through our blog.

Boca Raton and Del Ray Beach

We are planning our trip up the eastern side of Florida (as much as we plan, that is) with stops to see friends along the way. After leaving TK, Danny and Sande in Miami, we headed for the Boca Raton area to see our friends Lisa and Chip. Lisa is a long-time friend who moved from Savannah to Boca many years ago. She married Chip about two years ago. We met him once before, but this visit gave us time to get to know him better. The marina we chose was in Del Ray Beach, but near their house in Boca.

The trip was fascinating. There were retro 60s-style condos and houses, small bungalows and huge mansions. We have been seeing lots of yard art and statues. There is a sample of them in the photos, but some I didn't see until it was too late. The other thing we have seen lots of is boats - lots of boats - lots of big boats.

Our marina in Del Ray Beach was very nice - actually a marina for the condos there, but offering a few transient slips. Steve did an amazing job of navigating the narrow passage and backing in. Lisa came to meet us the following day for lunch. We caught up a bit and made plans for dinner the next evening. Steve and I rode bikes around Del Ray Beach and walked some in the downtown section. It's a neat little area with restaurants, shops and galleries. There is a nice drive along the beach, with nice houses and sand dunes. We could see kites from kite-surfers, but I didn't stop to take a picture.

Lisa and Chip came on board for a drink and then took us to their house for a home-cooked meal. It was fabulous! Their home is beautiful. We caught up on all the news of our families and friends back in Savannah. Steve and Chip did a lot of boat talking. Hopefully they will get to Savannah to visit sometime.

We left Monday (March 12) with 30 miles and 12 or so bridges between us and Jupiter, FL.

Some of these places really look like palaces!

Love the little retro places in front of the big buildings!

There are lots of little canals off the ICW

These were really cute little bungalows

I really liked this one!

We didn't go in. They use this facility for art classes.

Check out these chairs!

Deck84 - a good place for lunch!

Chip and Lisa. I forgot my camera when we went to dinner, so I borrowed one from Lisa's FB page.
