Welcome!

We are making the "Great Loop" - up the east coast, through the Great Lakes and into Canada, and then down the Mississippi and around Florida. It promises to be the adventure of a lifetime! We invite you to join us through our blog.

The Tennessee River

This is more like it! Since we left Green Turtle Bay, the scenery has been much less industrial. We are seeing rolling hills and trees just starting to turn colors. The fishing must be great because we have seen LOTS of fishing boats. There are still some tows and barges, but not like before. The marinas are small, but that's OK. We are just happy to be tied up! If we decide to anchor instead, there are plenty of good, safe anchorages. Life is good!

I finished my quilted tablecloth and started working on my sweater again. I put it down a couple of months ago because I ran out of yarn. It took some doing, but I found an online source for the yarn and had some sent to the house before we went in September. Since then, I have been working on other projects - but the chilly mornings have convinced me to pick it up again.

We haven't had a lock since Kentucky Dam, but that is about to change. On our way to Chattanooga, we will pass through four locks as we go higher into the mountains. In a couple of days, we will be near Shiloh battlefield. The marina nearby will let you use a courtesy car to go visit. We can visit the battlefield and get some shopping done.

Sara and Ryan and Olivia, and maybe Chris, will join us in Chattanooga for a weekend. I'm a happy Granny (or Gaga)!

This is much nicer

We are actually seeing houses along the way

An abandoned dock from before the dam was built

You can see the colors just starting to turn

Fishing boats

The new tablecloth. I made it with the "jellyroll" strips that Rebecca and I bought in Canada.

Steve met this man at the marina. He is a river guide in Alaska and Tennessee. He is kayaking from Chattanooga to the Mississippi for fun and camping along the way.

A tow passing by the entrance to the marina. We are still seeing a few, but not like before.

More fishing boats

Two tows ahead of us

And more fishing boats

One of the small marinas. We didn't stay here, but liked the sign.

Look closely - there's a cow along the bank.

This looks like dogs running on the bank, but they are calves.
