We decided to break up the return trip to the boat by staying overnight with David and Julie Brantley (and Bailey) in Richmond. Ryder was in heaven, because Julie had a big basket of rawhides that Bailey doesn't really like. Ryder thought she needed to taste every one of them. She also hopped up on the coffee table when we were all out of the room and helped herself to some crackers... that's getting to be a habit! We had a wonderful steak dinner, a good sleep in a comfy bed, and set off again Wednesday morning for Delaware City.
Apparently we brought hot weather with us - the heat index was over 105. We stopped at West Marine and the grocery store and then unloaded the car onto the boat. (Thank you, Steve. I carried one armload and then stayed on the boat and put things away as he went back and forth with a cart.) We moved the boat to a spot nearer the fuel dock and topped off the tanks. After the sun got behind the trees, we had drinks aboard
Sweet Grass with Dr. Jerry and Jenny Reves, from Charleston, SC.
Tim Konkus, owner of Delaware City Marina, helped us off early this morning. He was a wonderful host to
Gemini while we were away. We felt good about leaving her with him. Great marina and great people!
It was foggy crossing the Delaware River, but we had a mile visibility and at least it was calm. Sort of strange, though - there was blue sky and sunshine overhead, but fog in all directions. That lasted until after noon! We saw every kind of biting fly known to Delaware and New Jersey along the way... they seem to like me and Ryder better than Steve. On a happy note, I saw dolphins again! I thought we left them in North Carolina!
We are docked at Cape May, New Jersey. I have had my afternoon nap, Steve has washed the boat, and the air conditioner is on... life is good! Tomorrow we will ride our bikes around and check out the sights. I already know that they have two needlework shops here...

Just a bit foggy... |

The hump to the right of the rocks is a fishing boat |

You can see a sailboat in the distance to the right |

This ship was two miles away, according to our AIS |

This was around noon, with Cape May in the distance |

There's a short canal from the Delaware River to Cape May |
|
The entrance to the canal - lots of folks fishing and walking the beach |
|
There is a large ferry terminal for very large ferries at the beginning of the canal |
|
And here we are |
