Actually it was Lexington Park, across the river from Solomons. We stayed at the dock of another Air Guard friend, Steve Speer (BG, Ret.). Steve has a gorgeous place on the water, overlooking the bridge to Solomons. The mountain laurel was in bloom all over the hillsides around their protected harbor. It was a little bit of a trick to get into the harbor, but well worth it!
You will note the stairs going from the water up to Steve's house. Ryder took them in stride, literally. She could hop from the boat to the dock by herself. If we didn't watch her carefully, she would dash up the stairs and make a break for it!
My ear/throat thing finally got me, with fever and a vengeance, so I spent the afternoon and evening sleeping. Luckily, my wonderful doctors sent me armed with prescriptions to include antibiotics. Steve invited Ted and Nancy McCarley to dinner with us (which I missed). Ted and Nancy made the Great Loop a few years ago, so my Steve was happy to pick their brains about the trip.
Steve was a wonderful host and very generously shared his home, food and car. He is hoping to sell his place so that he can buy a boat and go cruising himself. So if you're in the market for a gorgeous piece of real estate on the water in Maryland...
