The weather was a little threatening as we left to go to Manistee, but it stayed at a distance and caused no trouble. It was a touch rough, so I was happy to pull into the harbor. At the entrance there was a park, presumably built by the Lion's Club - there was a lion in it.
Manistee has done everything they possibly could to make their town and waterfront appealing. There is a long boardwalk/jogging path that runs the length of the waterfront, dotted with parks and gardens. The main street area is well kept and even the empty buildings have a fresh coat of paint and clean windows. There is a butterfly garden along the main street, and even a children's playground with wildflowers planted around it.
We had a nice dinner in town on a dock overlooking the waterfront, then walked along the boardwalk back to the boat. All along the way, there were markers to tell about the city's history.
Next morning, we were off again headed for Pentwater...

This photo doesn't do this little park justice - it has murals and sculpture, and wildflowers, as well as great playground equipment for the kids and nice chairs for the parents. |
